Introduction to Acting and Acting Styles did just as the title says. Students were introduced to acting and the skills and preparation needed to be an actor. They also learned about different styles of acting like pantomime and "Reader's Theatre" and incorporated both these styles, as well as traditional acting, into their performances during The Library Comes Alive, three short plays based on children's literature.
Using the different techniques discovered in Introduction to Acting and Acting Styles, students created three short plays that showcased these different styles in
The Library Comes Alive: A Night of Scenes Based on Children's Literature.
The first was a pantomime of the Grimm’s Fairytale The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids. The story was read by a narrator as the cast acted out the action.
Next was a Reader’s Theatre rendition of Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hatches an Egg. Students created the characters using only their voices. Likewise, students created their own sound effects.
Lastly, students performed a one-act version of The Velveteen Rabbit, based on the book by Margery Williams. They used traditional acting to tell the story of a little girl’s love for her toy rabbit.
