Students involved in Shorewood Drama Jr. learn essential acting and technical theatre skills during the course of a production. But since the beginning of Shorewood Drama Jr., we've also encouraged that students learn about all aspects of the theatre like...
its history and traditions
different genres of theatre
playwrights and their plays
styles of acting
career opportunities within theatre
proper theatre terminology
and the list goes on.
Some of the pages listed under this "Topics & Lessons Learned" are specific topics related to past productions. Explore some of the interesting areas of theatre we have learned so far. There are also three pages that contain topics that affect each and every production:
Theatre Terminology
The vocabulary used in the theatre can be fairly complicated, like that of computers or doctors, and just as important to know for a production to be safe and successful.
Technical Theatre Crew Positions
While many who join Drama Junior are interested in being on the stage, some prefer being behind the scenes. Theatre would not happen without those technicians and crew members who work on things like costumes, the set, and props and also publicity. Drama Jr. encourages its actors to dabble in the technical aspects to get a greater appreciation for all the backstage magic that takes place to make a show successful.
Life Skills Learned in the Theatre
Finally, many who participate in Drama Junior do not continue to be involved in theatre as they grow up. Even less make theatre their college major or profession... and that is perfectly fine. But, being involved in theatre productions at a young age can teach life lessons that kids take with them and use in their future endeavors.
All of these pages are full of fun and interesting facts about a variety of different things within the world of theatre and Shorewood Drama Junior.
