Saturday Afternoon at the Bijou: Matinee Memories (or At the Bijou for short) was Shorewood Drama Jr.’s ninth production! A fun history lesson for actors and technicians alike, At the Bijou contained our own versions of newsreels; spoofed a cliff-hanging serial; brought a Betty Boop-like cartoon to life; parodied film trailers like vintage westerns and classic science fiction; and lampooned comic skits reminiscent of the Marx Brothers or the Three Stooges. At the Bijou transforms the stage into a Saturday matinee at a mid-20th century movie palace and evoked a fun walk down memory lane. Audiences enjoyed their trip back to the glory days of Hollywood and remembered the adventure of spending an entire Saturday afternoon at the movies.
