[Nov 30, 2017] SFU-Omics Group 7th Meeting - Goodbye 2017

Post date: Dec 19, 2017 8:31:40 PM

For our final meeting of 2017 we were happy to have Jamie Rosner from Advanced Research Computing (UBC), as well as SFU’s own Dr. David Clark (Lab for Quantitative Exercise Biology, BPK)!

Jamie kindly brought some of that sweet, sweet Compute Canada swag so you can rep your favorite state-of-the-art advanced research computing organization!

Tools for Automating Analysis Pipelines” - Jamie Rosner

Automation is at the heart of any large-scale data analysis. As part of an ongoing effort by Compute Canada to offer resources and support to researchers, Jamie talked about “workflow managers” with examples and the pros/cons of each.

A Computational Biology Approach to Understanding the Skeletal Muscle Signal Transduction Network” - Dr. Dave Clark

Dr. Clark talked about his lab’s work looking at how the human body responds to exercise, in particular the signalling pathways that respond to it. One of the challenges of this work is that individuals respond differently to the same training programs. In order to better understand this, Dr. Clark and his lab have used both wet-lab and meta-analyses to model the network of signalling pathways involved in skeletal muscle signal transduction.

See you in the New Year everyone!
