[May 11, 2018] “Introduction to Cedar Supercomputer” with Alex Razoumov

Post date: May 18, 2018 7:18:43 PM

On Friday, we had our first full-day workshop, which was led by Dr. Alex Razoumov, Training & Visualization Coordinator at WestGrid. Alex has tons of experience in High Performance Computing and in particular helping researchers use large clusters.

We started the day off with an overview of the hardware and then jumped into learning about some tools for working on a cluster. Alex taught us took us through bash and command line exercises, software modules, parallel computing, different programing languages, and even got to run our own parallel jobs.

In the afternoon, we learned about how to efficiently submit jobs using the job scheduler (SLURM), tips for debugging, and some best practices.

Overall, it was an informative workshop that got everyone ready to dive into their Omics questions using High Performance Computing on Cedar. We hope to see you at the next one!
