March 2008
03-03-2008: Went outside and drew on the sidewalk :)
05-03-2008: Denali played a Dora video game on the computer. I'm not too crazy about this idea but with Sen still out of town I'm still struggling to find her stuff to do. We then played with some scrabble letters. We used them to spell "Denali", "Deruni", "Vinita", and "Sen" and compared the lenghts and the letters. Then Denali made some (pretend) words and I had to copy them. Then she decided that we should write them down so we both got paper and pens and copied first her word and then my word. I have started sounding out the letters to pronounce the word. I don't make Denali repeat it is just to get her used to the sounds.
06-03-08: Field trip to Crissy Field Center. Did a scavenger hunt there. Explored the marsh using our five senses.
07-03-2008: Read Richard Scarry's "Best ever word book" otherwise know in this house as the "cat family book". Completed the letter "E" in the alphabet book. Then we cut out shapes to complete a bicycle puzzle. However, this didn't go to well. Denali could cut out the pieces and she tried to stick them in the correct places but she was a bit off and got fustrated with the whole thing. At this point Deruni woke up and she wanted her own bicycle to colour. So we went to the dinning table and they both coloured their bicylces and denali decorated her's with some grains (Dahl, rice, mung beans, and corriander seeds) and coloured tissue paper.
08-03-08: Recieved some new books from Sri Lanka. Denali had an extra day at school :) She worked on a number workbook and completed the numbers 1 - 5. Then did a couple of activities that entailed counting the number of objects and then writing the number down. Then we moved onto the letter "D". Denali would not colour the worksheet http://www.kidzone.ws/kindergarten/index-color1.htm. She coloured the itsy bitsy "D" book, and we cut pictures from magazines of items that begin with D and stuck them on a paper. She also did a worksheet where she had to match the object's starting with D.
10-03-08: Sen got Denali to colour in the D worksheet. Denali also completed writing the letter L. She completed the "itsy bitsy L book". And demonstrated while we were out at the doctors that she could recognise a capital "L".
12-03-08:Denali made her itsy bitsy B book and completed writing the letter B. Denali then did some drawing and we made some easter decorations for our easter egg hunt party. We did activities 2 and 4. The one with confetti was the girls favourite.
14-03-08: cover for alessandra's itsy bitsy book. cut out first sheet of alphabet squares. N book
Denali is enjoying watching her poppy plants grow. Soon we will have to put them outside. A great experiance. She has to be reminded to water them though. If I forget to remind her I do it myself. I guess I could just let them die so that she can see the consequenses of the lack of water, but they are the only seeds that came through of all those that we planted:(
16-03-08: Weeded the garden around where we planted our seeds. The poppys have come through. Replanted some old geraniums and watered our "patch".
17-03-08: Worked on the sinhala letter "e" (thats as close as I can get!). Wrote it, read books about it and other vowels. Coloured in the letter. Started to make a paper mache piggy bank http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/Piggybank.shtml
19-03-08: eeek! I don't remember what we did!!
20-03-08: Field trip to Briones regional park.
21-03-08: Completed our papermache piggy by covering it with pink, yellow, and purple bleeding art tissue paper. Made more easter eggs to decorate the house for Sunday's easter egg hunt.
SPRING BREAK!!! But we did quite a bit none the less. Denali completed the following worksheets:
We also stuck eyes and tail onto the piggybank and cut a hole for the money. Its a big hit with both girls.
wow its april now!!!
31-03-08: Cooking class :) Denali washed and chopped red bell peppers and did the washing up. We then did an activity where Denali had to pick out the utensils needed to plant some seeds and colour them in.
