Objectives: To introduce all of the Mathematica commands needed during the course and to provide the students
Preliminaries/Lead-In: (Paula) I'll note timing here. We discussed in our meeting together that we probably didn't want to try to get them started on Mathematica Activity same day as handing out Project Stage 1 (that would take too much time away from Mathematica work.) So, I'll be handing out Project Stage 1 in class today (Wednesday) and doing Mathematica Activity in class on Friday.
Suggested Procedures: I will let the students work through this activity in pairs without much whole class discussion. I will suggest that they both take turns being the ones that type by switching for every second question. I will spend the time answering individual questions but if something seems to be coming up over and over again then I will talk to the whole class.
Wrap-Up/Take-Away: I will talk to them about the advantage of being able to see that the function is a good model and the benefit of modeling data with a symbolic function.
Possible Homework: Finishing up the end if they have not got through everything in class.
