Walter Street Grand Opening Set for June 22

All are invited to join together to celebrate the opening of the new Walter Street entrance to the Roslindale Wetlands on Saturday, June 22, starting at 1:00 p.m. Mayor Michelle Wu will join members of the Roslindale Wetlands Task Force and the Longfellow Area Neighborhood Association to celebrate this milestone.

The event marks the completion of two years of ecological restoration work, and twenty years of advocacy by neighbors who organized with the goals of preserving green space and opposing inappropriate development. A perimeter trail was completed, many invasive plants removed, and native plants introduced. The work of contractors was supplemented by "Serve and Learn" days that rallied neighbors to help out.

We also celebrate the fact that Habitat for Humanity has received the building permit needed to move forward with the development of four units of affordable ownership housing at 104 Walter Street. This will involve rehab of the blue house and construction of a second building on the location of the collapsed barn.
