Crampmore 3.5 miles

Start either from the Hunters Inn on the Winchester Road or St Swithun's Church. This route includes quiet road, farmland and woods.

St Swithun's Church was built in the 19th Century as a combined church ans school for the then rural community. The school moved out in 1927.

From the church, follow the path running parallel tot the main road until you reach Crampmore Lane.

Across the road is the Mandarin Chef, which until the 1970's was Greenways Restaurant, a stopping off point for people travelling to the beach.

At the end of Crampmore Lane, continue over the stream and follow the footpath into the field. Take the left hand fork in the path.

For a shorter route take the right hand fork. This can be very muddy.

Go through the gate into the next field and continue towards the wood.

Follow the footpath through the wood.

Turn right onto the road and follow, under the railway, past the path to Baddesley Common, until the large metal gate on the right.

The railway line between Romsey and Eastleigh, opened 1847, was originally double track. For a while it was the mainline route from Salisbury to London. It closed to passengers in the 1969. It reopened to passengers in 2003.

Go through the gate, follow the lane over the ford and cross the railway line.

This will bring you back to the end of Crampmore Lane.

Continue straight on, through the farm gate and follow the footpath between the fields and into the wood behind the Straight Mile.

When the path meets the lane running parallel with the main road, follow this until you are back at the church.
