About 8 miles (4 miles each way).
Start from Briashfield at the "Dog and Crook" pub. Take the road opposite the pub, at the end is the footpath. This route is muddy in winter, so walking boots are vital then.
It takes you up round Hillier Gardens, through Ampfield Wood and out cross fields with a view of the Hursley cricket pitch. You exit onto the road at John Keble School, Hurley. Turn right along the IBM road and left onto the main Hursley road. A short way along you come to the "Dolphin" Pub.
Both the " Dog and Crook" and "Dolphin" are dog friendly and served us good food at lunchtime (November 2015).
The return route repeats the start and finish, but there are a variety of paths in the middle you can use to add variety.
