Between Kings Somborne and Up Somborne, this takes you across a mixture of arable land, woodland, a vineyard and even some large back gardens. When walked in winter we met no other walkers and were able to enjoy the open countryside, solitude and rambling views without disturbance or noise of any kind.
Park on the ample grass verge at SU 379 313 and follow the footpath across the field behind the horizontal tree trunk laid across the entrance to the field.
The path goes past some modern farm buildings and then through some large gardens. The route is well signposted through the gardens. At the end of these turn left through the woods (at this point you can detour instead of going through the woods, through another garden to visit the Norman church and site of a castle).
At the corner of the wood, follow the path to the right. Alternatively, if you want a short walk, continue out of the wood and across the fields until you meet the road.
At the end of the wood, continue along the path through the fields past the farm office. This path eventually meets a byway heading gently down hill in a northerly direction. Follow this until you meet the road.
At the road turn left and then take the next turn on the right, up past the entrance to the vineyard.
Just past a sharp turn to the left in the road, take the footpath west along the top of the vineyard.
Just before the end corner of the vineyard, there is a gate through the deer fence into the vineyard itself. The footpath cuts off the corner here, then heads down hill back to the road where the car is parked.
