Rabinandan presented its 15th annual programme at the Birla Academy before taking off for Dubai to participate in a music festival scheduled for 26-30 December last year. This organization was also invited to participate in a weeklong festival of Rabindrasangeet organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Sanskritik Sangha in May 2013, and won appreciation medals in both solo and group singing. A melody-dipped group rendition by the members of Rabinandan proved the point when the evening was kick-started with an insprited "Mora satyer pore mon aajikoribo samarpan".
The first leg of the evening was kept for solo renditions. Invited artiste Suranjan Roy evoked nostalgia by singing some of the famous Subinay Roy numbers soulfully. Rabinandan members Esha Mitra and Soumi Bhattacharya also sang beautifully but Jayashri Das could not do justice to any of her two songs, including "Ke jabi pare". The second half of the evening was dedicated to Rabindra-natyageeti. Impressive singing with dialogues from Shodhbodh, Natir Puja, Achalayatan, Tapati and Chirokumar Sabha made it enjoyable. Minku Roy, Malini Ganguli, Sanghamitra Chatterjee, Smriti Sinha, Ranjit Biswas and Jagat Bose deserve special mention for their songs and dialogue rendition. Ruby Dutta, Sumita Sen and Gobinda Basak excelled in acting. The back-ground score was deftly handled by Susamay Bhattacharya (sitar), Anjan Basu (esraj), Rana Dutta (keyboard), Bireshwar Bhowmik and Goutam Bhattacharya (tabla); albeit group singing was not up to the mark. Inspired compering by Debjani Majumdar added extra zing to the event.
