After years of praying, the King of Manipur is blessed with a baby girl - Chitrāngadā. She is raised like a man and transforms into a strong protector of his people. One day, she spots Arjunā in the forest and falls in love with him. Arjunā, the brahmachari, refuses her love. She goes away and prays to Madan Dev to make her a beautiful woman. This works and Arjunā falls in love with her. All along, though, she longs for him to love her for who she really is. One day, dacoits attack their land. Heeding the call of her people, Chitrāngadā defeats them in a tough battle. Impressed, Arjunā asks her to reveal her true self. Chitrāngadā then asks Madan Dev to transform her back to her manly looks.
