Clay Club - work on your own project at your own pace.
Clay club is in response to people who come along to my workshops and have their own ideas of items to make and would rather do this than follow a structured workshop. Clay club is designed for people who prefer independent creative exploration!
Unleash your inner ceramic artist with Clay Club, a block of four inspiring pottery sessions designed for you to learn, explore, and create the projects you envision!
Tired of structured, step-by-step workshops? Clay Club is your answer!
Born from the enthusiasm of those who come to my classes brimming with their own unique ideas, this club offers the freedom to pursue your personal pottery goals. This is a focused block of four sessions, rather than an ongoing commitment, giving you the perfect opportunity to dive into your creative projects.
The structure is simple: the first three sessions are all about making, while the final session is dedicated to the exciting process of glazing your bisque-fired creations.
In each of the making sessions, I'll demonstrate a different fundamental pottery technique:
• Session 1: Coiling – Discover the art of building forms with coils. Project ideas include bowls, charming honey pots, whimsical animal pots, and elegant vases.
• Session 2: Pinch Pot – Explore the tactile method of shaping clay with your hands. Consider crafting adorable pumpkins, endearing bears, or personalized mugs.
• Session 3: Slab Building – Learn to construct with flat sheets of clay. Potential projects include stylish plant pots, functional jugs or vases, playful ghosts, or festive Christmas trees.
Session 4: Glazing - You will have a choice of brush on stoneware glazes to decorate you creations.
You also have the option to wrap and seal your projects at the end of the first session to continue working on them in subsequent making sessions
While I'll offer project suggestions and demonstrate each technique, the choice of what you create is entirely yours! Bring your own exciting ideas or be inspired by my prompts. This is a participant-led experience, a departure from the step-by-step format of my regular workshops.
During all sessions, I'll be on hand to offer guidance, advice, and suggestions tailored to your individual projects. While I can briefly demonstrate techniques as needed, please note that my time will be shared amongst the class in this collaborative format.
Beginners are welcome, but some prior experience with clay, ideally through one of my previous workshops, is recommended to make the most of this independent format. All necessary clay and equipment are included. You can create as many items as you wish within each session, keeping in mind their complexity.
Please note that there will be a £5 firing and glazing fee per item to cover kiln costs and all glaze materials.
With a maximum of 8 participants, I can ensure everyone receives the support they need.
Come prepared with your own creative concepts or let me spark your imagination with suggestions to get you started.
Please be aware that there will be a size limit for fired pieces due to kiln capacity. You can choose to make several smaller items or dedicate your time to a larger, more intricate piece, which can be developed over all three making sessions if desired.
So, join me for a pottery journey allowing you to explore your creativity in a supportive and collaborative class.
