Cumming's Auction

(BELOW) Ad announcing the auction of Newark's Cumming's Brewery, from The Albany Evening Journal, 1831.

While Peter Ballantine was coincidentally living and working as a brewer in Albany at the time, he and and Erastus Patterson would not lease this same brewery until 1840. Records show that in 1831 Thomas Morton would take over the brewery.

Note, too, that the ad's placement in an Albany paper is probably due to the fact that "...several thousand barrels of Ale are imported yearly from Albany, Troy, Lansingburgh* and elsewhere; and a constant and ready sale can be had for a good article, in any quantity."
