The graveyard on Pacific’s campus was originally used by the Congregational Church, which was founded in 1845 (it is now the United Church of Christ). In the very earliest days of Forest Grove, members of the community were buried here, including the Reverend Harvey Clark. Most of the people buried in this area were relocated, probably in the 1870s, to Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Several bodies do not seem to have been relocated, however, and those who are believed to still lie on campus include:
John Kimzey (1814-1849)
Henry Naylor (? – 1848)
Philemon Lee (1803-1851)
Elizabeth Lee (? – 1858)
[Note: more information about the graveyard’s history and the plaque that was installed on campus, please see the Graveyard subject file in the Pacific University Archives.]
