Quick Reference: A red binder labelled "Building and Site Histories," normally shelved under the clock
This binder includes a series of maps that show the locations of buildings on campus over time; a listing of when each building was constructed; and various other details about the buildings under tabs in the binder, such as whether it was ever rebuilt, how it was funded, etc.
More quick reference: Pacific University Historic Resources Report, 2019
This report describes most of the historic properties owned by Pacific that were built in 1970 or earlier. It was written by an architectural historian using a variety of resources provided by the Archives and Facilities.
Longer context and other info: File cabinets; Splendid Audacity
Some (not all) buildings and certain landmarks such as the Petrified Stump have file folders in the grey cabinets. These often provide information that we have found in obscure places (e.g. old newspaper articles) about the histories of particular buildings and landmarks. The book Splendid Audacity also provides short histories of many of the most significant buildings/landmarks on campus.
Some buildings have records related to their construction and/or remodeling within the Archives. Those for Old College Hall are especially complete. Check ArchivesSpace
Photographs
Most buildings on campus constructed pre-1970 have photographs in WashingtonCountyHeritage.org. Recent photographs of campus can be found in the University Flickr Site.
Blueprints
We have blueprints and floorplans for a few buildings on campus that are not indexed in ArchivesSpace within the oversized file drawers. However, exercise caution in providing access to these, as some could have security issues -- e.g. the Library blueprints could provide information on how to access server rooms and so on. In general we would only provide access to qualified university staff or with permission from an appropriate administrative office. Other blueprints are on file with Facilties; refer to them if needed.
