An Accession Record = a record of the transaction of having received a group of material into our collections.
We create one accession record for each time we receive a group of material from a donor. Note that this is NOT necessarily one accession record per item received!
The accession record is mostly meant for internal use: to track the donor information, processing notes, location information, and very basic description of the material. It is not meant to function as the permanent, public description of our material. Thus while the accession record needs to be accurate, it does not need to go into great detail about the contents of the material, nor does it need to use extensive subject headings, etc.
