Chuck Norris Facts

To become a Brother Of Chuck:

    • you must first be a Viking

    • you must emerge victorious against another Brother Of Chuck in a Viking, WINSA, or OHYC race, taking 1st place over ALL other boats- Viking or otherwise,

      • in a singlehanded race on a SJ 24, or

      • in a doublehanded race on a SJ 24, with the vessel's owner as silent crew. The owner of the SJ 24 must not speak from the start to the finish of the race, nor touch the tiller, under penalty of disqualification. Duct tape is available upon request.

      • All challenging San Juan 24s must carry the same crew compliment, although existing Brothers Of Chuck may have additional crew and speak freely with them. Telepathy is encouraged in candidates.

    • The course may be a standard course or one otherwise agreed upon.

For safety, the definition of singlehanding may include one additional person aboard that does not participate in the operation of the vessel in any way, except for hiking and heeling. The additional person must be silent for the race duration, under penalty of disqualification. Since these persons provide no aid, except for hiking and heeling, they may be referred to as ballast instead of crew. Vikings are especially encouraged to add a ballast person on night races.

Upon attaining the most excellent status of Brother of Chuck, the Helmet Of Glory will be awarded. This award is obtained once, but the glory is everlasting. It is for this reason that when a Brother Of Chuck meets another Brother Of Chuck, it may be said between them, "The award is obtained once," to which the proper reply is, "but the glory endures forever."

Brothers Of Chuck are encouraged to wear their prize in all racing events- Viking or otherwise.

*To those that might be discouraged to become a Brother Of Chuck for lack of a San Juan 24 sailboat- Take heart, captains of SJ 24s are often willing to loan a boat to worthy seekers or to doublehand as silent crew. We do not wish to exclude fine sailors by maintaining the requirement of racing a SJ 24, but this is a San Juan 24 club. For this reason, exceptional effort will be made to accommodate qualified candidates with a boat.
