Use of York Missal

This is a rough translation and transcription from 19th century books and a minimal knowledge of Latin at this point. Being rough, however, it is my first draft and it is copyrighted and prohibited for profit use. If you have any suggestions for translation suggestions please email me at pcampbell 17 @ hotmail .com.

This missal fell out of use and was suppressed by King Henry VIII in favour for the protestanized Sarum Rite. It was in use in Yorkshire, England. There is a nice resemblence between this Missal and the Tridentine Missal.

This missal is a work in process. The Order of Mass will be posted for study, I will have yet to format it and upload the propers and the two volume Breviary and Sacraments.

Judica me dues.

Quia tu es, Deus, fortitudo mea: quare me repulisti , et quare tristis incedo, dum affligit me inimicus?

Confitebor tibi in cithara, Deus, Deus meus: quare tristis es, anima mea, et quare conturbas me?

Amen.

+ The beginning of the holy Gospel according to St. John.

Glory to you, o Lord.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was made nothing that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men might believe through him. He was not that Light, but was to give testimony of the Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not. He came unto His own, and His own received Him not. But as many as received Him, He gave power to become the sons of God: to them that believe in His name: who are born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (genuflect here) AND THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Prayer to be said after the celebration posted:

I thank thee, most sweet Lord Jesus Christ, the true light, the salvation of believers, sad comfort, hope

+ Initium sancti Evangelii secundum Joannem.

S:Gloria tibi, Domine.

Oratio dicenda post  celebrationem missae:

Gratias ago tibi, dulcissime Domine Jesu Christe, lux vera, salus credentium, solatium tristium, spesque conctorum, graudium

Amen.

Finis.
