Lorrha-Stowe Missal

English Version of the ancient Celtic missal. Some liberties have been used in trying to reconstruct this mass. The Stowe missal gives us much clues. However, the "Communion of the Priest" and the "Communion of the Faithful" were found in other sources. The later being from the Antiphonary of Bangor, and the "Communion of the Faithful" from the propers at the end of the Stowe missal, specifically the visitation of the sick.

The final blessing was added also from the visitation of the sick due to the fact it says "Thus ends the order of communion"  This must have been assumed at the end of the ordinary of the mass due to the lack of vellum and space to write out the whole mass.

As things are being updated and found, this mass will be updated also. I am currently working on the Kalendar and Martyrology and identifying the saints in the Stowe Missal.

Prayer of St. Augustine

It is prophecy that our own self-righteousness turns us into filthy rags. We are unworthy, Lord Christ, that we might be living, but thou, O God, you do not wish the death of sinners, you have placed your forgiveness on us in the flesh, in order that we may enjoy eternal life in Heaven, through the labors of (our) repentance. Through our Lord.

(i.e. But even still God does not want death of those who sin. He forgives all thru penance)

Vesting Prayer

I beseech thee, O, God of Hosts, most Holy Father that I may be made to (wear) the coat of chastity. And gird my loins with the cincture of the love of Thee. And to inflame the reins of my heart with the fire of Thy love. To be able to intercede for my sins and for sins of people to gain pardon for them. And to peace of the individual sacrifices. Through our Lord.

This prayer is sung at every mass:

        "Hanc igitur" (Tridentine in nature)

We therefore beseech Thee, O Lord, graciously to accept this oblation we offer to Thee in honor of our Lord Jesus Christ, and in the mentioning of the blessed martyrs of thine.....

Which oblation do Thou, O God, vouchsafe in all respects, to bless, approve, ratify, make worthy and acceptable; that it may be made for us the Body and Blood of Thy most beloved Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Who, the day before He suffered, took bread into His holy and venerable hands, and with His eyes lifted up towards heaven unto Thee, God, His almighty Father, giving thanks to Thee, He blessed it, broke it and gave it to His disciples saying: Take and eat ye all of this,

FOR TH IS MY BODY

In like manner, after He had supped, taking also this excellent chalice into His holy and venerable hands He blessed, and gave it to His disciples, saying: Take and drink ye all of this,

FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL TESTAMENT, THE MYSTERY OF FAITH; WHICH SHALL BE SHED FOR YOU AND FOR MANY UNTO THE REMISSION OF SINS.

As often as ye do these things, ye shall do them in remembrance of Me. As often as ye do these things, ye will proclaim, In my remembrance, proclaiming My Passion, My rising, hoping my coming, until I come to you with a second time from heaven.

Wherefore, O Lord, we Thy servants, as also Thy holy people, calling to mind the blessed Passion of the same Christ, Thy Son, our Lord, and also His Resurrection from the dead and His glorious Ascension into heaven: do offer unto Thy most excellent Majesty of Thine own gifts, bestowed upon us, a pure Host, a holy Host, an unspotted Host, the holy Bread of eternal life, and the Chalice of everlasting salvation.

Upon which vouchsafe to look with a propitious and serene countenance, and to accept them, as Thou weret graciously pleased to accept the gifts of Thy just servant Abel, and the sacrifice of our patriarch Abraham, and that which Thy high priest Melchisedech offered to Thee, a holy Sacrifice, and unspotted Victim.

We most humbly beseech Thee, almighty God, command these offerings to be borne by the hands of Thy holy Angels to Thine altar on high, in the sight of Thy divine majesty, that as many as shall partake of the most holy Body and Blood of Thy Son at this altar, may be filled with every heavenly grace and blessing. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God, The sight of Thy divine majesty, listen. Who presume to call upon They holy name, have mercy on me, O lord, a sinner who is inherently unclean in the dregs of the mire, Forgive the undeserving Priest through whose hands this offering seems to be offered; Spare, the sinner who is polluted with the sain of mortal sin that is above all other sins, and enter not into judgment with Thy servant, because it is not in Thy sight that no living man be justified, namely, we are weighed down by the will of the flesh, remember, Lord, that we are flesh, and there is no other to be compared to you, even the heavens are not clean in Thy sight, how much more we men of the earth of whom we said:
