"The Bet" by Anton Chekhov

Part 1 of 2:

Anton Chekhov

Part 2 of 2:

"I saw a man pursuing the horizon"

by Stephen Crane

I saw a man pursuing the horizon;

Round and round they sped.

I was disturbed at this;

I accosted the man.

“It is futile,” I said,

“You can never —”

“You lie,” he cried,

And ran on.

In your own words!  Themes.

3RD HOUR:

I believe that in Anton Chekhov’s “The Bet,” he is trying to say that human life is the most important thing and not knowledge, money, and possessions.

I believe that Anton Chekhov, by writing “The Bet,” is trying to prove that life is too short and to worry about (1) being right (2) money, and (3) proving a point all the time.

In the story, “The Bet,” I believe that Anton Chekhov is trying to tell us that we all want money and don’t really enjoy our lives.

I think that by writing “The Bet” Anton Chekhov is telling us that humans don’t need the money and that he doesn’t want anyone to know about the paper

I believe in the story, “The Bet,” that money is not everything.  Our knowledge is nothing.

Life’s too short to always need to win.

I believe that in the story, “The Bet,” Anton Chekhov is trying to say that life is worth more than just money and material possessions and that all people think about is money, not the real purpose of life.

The theme of the bet is that you can have all the wisdom in the world, but what you really should want is life.

I believe, in the story, “The Bet,” the theme is that people get too greedy and they should just enjoy the little things in life.

Life isn’t worth millions; it’s all about freedom.

I believe that, in the story, “The Bet,” Anton Chekhov is trying to tell us that humans today live for the wrong reasons, and they aren’t living their lives fully.  They’re too caught up in worldly things (Money, etc.).

I believe that Anton Chekhov is trying to tell us that we just need to live life.  It isn’t all about wisdom or money; it’s about just being happy.

I believe that Anton Chekhov is telling us that money is not happiness, nor is knowledge that consumes you to do unreasonable things.

Anton Chekhov was showing me how greedy he is and how people shouldn’t make bets because they will always loose.

I believe that the theme for “The Bet” is that money isn’t worth more than your freedom.

I believe that Anton Chekhov is telling the reader that you should live life how you want.

In “The Bet,” Anton Chekhov is telling the reader that no man/woman needs to win or lose… he/she simply needs to live his/her life happily.

We believe that Anton Chekhov is trying to say that you don’t have to have money to live your life and be happy.
