Frederick Beckett; Thomas Degg & Jack ledgar. Recipients of the Order of industrial heroism

Record of medal award taken from "The Order of Industrial Heroism" by W.H.Fevyer, J.W.Wilson and J.E.Cribb (2000)

"24 January 1952. Thomas Degg, Frederick Beckett and Jack Ledgar were working in the Hem Heath No. 1 Pit in September 1951 when a great fall of roof buried Joseph Glover, a Deputy. They immediately went to his assistance and, despite three more falls of debris did their utmost to extricate him. They were all injured by these further falls and the work was so dangerous and arduous that Glover died of asphyxia before they finally got him out. The National Coal Board have since stopped work at this face because of its dangerous condition."
