NATIONAL HISTORY DAY

I am moderating National History Day this year. All who are interested should come and see me in A227 or email me ASAP to get some ideas rolling.

The theme for the 2014 National History Day is:

Rights and Responsibilities

1. You choose a historical topic related to the annual theme (Rights and Responsibilities in History),

2. Conduct primary and secondary research (through libraries, archives and museums, oral interviews, and historic sites).

3. Analyze and interpret your sources, and draw a conclusion about the significance of your topic – be sure to cite your sources.

4. Create an annotated bibliography

5. Write a process paper

a. The first section should explain how you chose your topic.

b. The second section should explain how you conducted your research.

c. The third section should explain how you selected your presentation category and created your project.

d. The fourth section should explain how your project relates to the NHD theme.

6. Present your work in one of five ways:

· a paper (individual only) – between 1500 and 2500 words

· an exhibit (individual or group of 2 to 5 people) – no more than 500 words

· a performance (individual or group of 2 to 5 people) – no more than 10 minutes

· a documentary (individual or group of 2 to 5 people) – also no longer than 10 minutes

· a website (individual or group of 2 to 5 people) – using their weebly portal

The day of the competiton for Northwood High School will be in early February, school registration forms are due on January 17th

Student registration forms are due on February 14th, with four copies of the paper due too.

The day of the competition for all of Montgomery County is Saturday March 15th.

The day of the competition for all of Maryland is Saturday, April , 2014 at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC)

The National History Day competition will be held June 10-14, 2012
