Project Description:

While checking out the price of recreational underwater ROV (8000 Usd or more),Hugh and I came out with the idea to build our own ROV to bring the non divers under the water or to do underwater exploration and videography.

It’s going to be Arduino based for the core, propulsion system from Bilge pump DC motors. The body made from 4” PVC pipe and old diving torch for the windows and hatches.

Powered by lipo batteries directly inside the hull. Cat5 ethernet cable is going to transport the video and telemetry to the surface and the command from the surface. We plan for a max depth around 30 to 40 meters so 100m tether should be good enough.

The control system at the surface is going to be Arduino based too. It should display telemetry and send command to the ROV received from PPM wireless transmission hacked from DJI Tr6 2.4ghz RC transmitter. The video received from the ROV via cable is going to be connected to a 5.8 Ghz immersion video transmitter to allow us to display the video on my Black pearl diversity screen and my Fatshark Google (eventually with an OSD telemetry).

There is lot of unknown for this project and we are going to do lot of experimentation and fun testing.

Let share the job: Hugh is going to be in charge to design and prototype the hull while i’m going to prototype the propulsion system and the ROV brain.
