Arduino Starter Kit and DFRobot Beginner Kit

Post date: Apr 29, 2015 12:10:35 PM

I have purchased One Arduino Starter Kit and one DFRobot beginner kit online form Central electrionics in indonesia.

I was very happy with the service of Central Electronics, they were very responsive and had my parcel on my remote island 4 days after my order.

I purchased 2 kits to have a broader range of components, one board for testing and one board for prototyping.

The Arduino Starter Kit.

I start with the arduino starter kit and did conscientiously all the projects, except for the number 15 because i didn't find anything to hack but i got the idea and keep it in a corner of my mind.

All the exercises are well documented for perfect beginner and the Stater kit youtube channel by Massimo Banzi is a really good help.

The book is a nice printed book but the color theme doesn't help for the reading and there is no pdf version of the book which is odd for an open-source electronics platform. I would have prefer not to pay for a nice printed book and have instead a downloadable pdf file.

You can find all the datasheet of the component listed in the kit from the arduino website starter kit page

All the code are provided directly in the IDE Software available on the arduino website..

There is a very nice 16x2 LCD display and an easy wooden board to assemble your bread board and your arduino.

Some components of the kit are very chip. specially the bread board and the contact switch They could have provide a little bit more and better quality jumpers too.

The carton box is not very strong and you should think about a different location to store your very small component. I recycled old plastic box from the packaging of my diving masks as storage box for my components.

Globally i was very happy with the kit and was very exited to do all the exercises. I would recommend this starter kit for absolute beginner. I really like the introduction to the processing software of the chapter 14.

The DFRobot Beginer kit:

The DFRobot Beginer kit come with a nice Protoshield board to plug on the DFRduino Uno R3 but a very small bread board to fix on the protoshield board.

Globally the components are better quality than the one provided with arduino beginner kit. Very good quality and numerous jumpers. There is no LCD display provided but instead a 8 digit led display.

The kit is packed in a nice hard plastic box that 's perfect storage for the components.

No book is provided but all the exercises are printed on nice card board. You can download the tutorial codes from the DFRobot beginner kit page and the exercises are detailed on their wiki page.

I must admit that i didn't do yet all the exercises from the beginner kit because most of them are redundant with the arduino starter kit but i did use the RFRobotic component to realize the arduino starter kit example.
