Floor Hockey Unit Written Assessment

In our Floor Hockey Unit we have been looking at the Sport Ed Model. This is a process where students take a leadership role in designing plays, coaching, refereeing, and running a practice session before a game. Its idea is to create the skills needed to become a coach or parental volunteer.

Assignment:

In a one to two page paper, following the below guidelines I want you to describe Herb Brooks, player then turned coach of the 1980 Olympic Men’s Hockey team, coaching style and how it influenced his players. Key points of his coaching style should be described along with how you feel they worked to create a gold medal team from one of the biggest failing programs in men’s Olympic sports. The following questions should be addressed in your essay.

1. Do you think he was fair in his coaching?

2. Was it to much to ask?

3. What worked and what didn’t work?

4. Why did he have to incorporate this style on his young athletes?

5. Compare and contrast his coaching style to the several you may have experienced in your life from coaches or mentors?

Essay Requirements:

1. A one to two page double spaced 12 font paper

2. Three paragraph essay with an intro with a thesis statement, body, and conclusion paragraph.
