I've started reading a new book. Digital Habitats by Wenger, White, and Smith is giving me great insight into how communities can interact digitally. I thought I would comment on a small section. While reading a section titled Technologies and Communities: a productive intertwining (on pages 19 and 20) I could relate to a discussion starting on page 19, "As communities appropriate technologies, they make themselves at home in new ways and in new places". They also state that communities shape technologies to meet their needs. The book also talks about Twitter and the conversations people were having using the @ username convention. I was excited to see this book connect to my work. The technology savvy in my school district have started a weekly 8pm technology collaboration on Twitter using a particular hashtag name. It is a great way for teachers to connect and share using one of the latest communication devices. To make it even easier a co worker informed me that there is a web service called Tweet Deck to help you organize conversations. Check it out! Anyway, the word is spreading, I have heard from other teachers that great conversations are going on on Twitter.
