Cycle 1 Plan

The Tech Meetup

Cycle 1 Research Question: If I facilitate a lunchtime Teachers Using Technology Meetup, how will that help build collaboration groups among school staff, to enhance teacher and student technology use on campus?

Lunch time “Meet-Ups” will be scheduled to bring teachers together who are interested in discussing technology use in the classroom.

A collaborative tool will be discussed for the sharing of ideas and tools. Teachers will be included in an agreed upon online forum for sharing ideas and a link to the resource will be sent out to teachers for exploration.

What are the potential artifacts to be collected in Cycle 1:

I will be collecting:

1. Group list of members in the Teacher’s Using Technology group

2. Tech Meetup Notes

3. Tech Meetup Web Page and sharing space

4. Observation record of activities in classrooms that are integrating technology in the classroom

What is the estimated timeline?

      • Notification and meeting planning - December 15 - January 14
      • Taking action First meeting scheduled for January 14, second meeting February 4th or other date(s) as group decides
      • Data collection: Jan. 28, February 18 - each date is about 2 weeks after meeting date. Data will also be collected at meetings 1/14 and 2/4
      • Data analysis: Feb. 23- March 4
      • reflection: March 5 - 7

I plan to evaluate the outcomes of this action by:

    1. Measuring the number of members of the Teacher’s Using Technology CoP - To know if the CoP is a useful group for the staff, I will measure how many teachers join the CoP and remain in it for the duration of cycle 1. At the start of a meet-up, a list of attending teachers will be recorded. After the Cycle 1 time period a survey for each teacher stating whether or not they are still interested in being a member of the CoP will collected. Other questions asked will be how to improve the group and what else teachers would be interested in discussing. It will also be interesting to count if any have joined during the time period were not involved when the group was initiated.
    2. Observation of activities in classrooms integrating technology in teaching and activities of students.
    3. Measuring the number of members that have investigated the Tech meetup web page and interacted with it's content. Sharing of ideas via face to face meetings is helpful to foster group cohesiveness and connectedness. But, finding time for teachers to gather materials and share them with each other is challenging so an online tool should benefit the group. It will be necessary to measure the use of this online tool by looking at material shared.
