I wanted to include my community of practice presentation in my blog posts. I spend a lot of time working with teachers who are members of this community of practice. These teachers are passionate and excited about the opportunities they are giving their students to use tools that are relevant and that help them reach out to others in interesting ways. For example, students are blogging and commenting on blog posts, they are sharing their work electronically, and they are engaged when using the iPads.
For my action research project, I will be working to develop smaller communities of practice related to teachers technological areas of interest. I'll be spending more time with my Digital Habitats book by Wenger, White, and Smith, because they discuss digital tools and communities. I want the communities I foster to have a means of communicating digitally as well as face to face interactions. This way, when time allows, they can thoughtfully reflect and share ideas, work, pictures, and other media, rather than try to remember and share only in scheduled face to face meeting times.
