Avanija Vangala (Violin)
Avanija Vangala is an 8th Grader at Stratford Preparatory School in Sunnyvale.
Avanija started learning Carnatic Vocal from Kalaimamani Vidushi Padma Shankar at the age of 5. She started learning Carnatic Violin from her at the age of 10. With her Guru’s blessings Avanija participated in many competitions (OSAAT, Sampada, MYICMF, Saptami, etc) and won many prizes. She has been nominated as Saptami Superstar this year for winning first prize in Level 2 Kriti, Alapana and Kalpanaswaram and will be performing on their platform.
Avanija also learns Western Violin as a pre-college student at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She started learning Western Violin at the age of 6 from Galina Glek. She is now learning with Grammy Nominated Violinist Alisa Rose at the Conservatory. Avanija plays in string Ensembles around the Bay Area including California Youth Symphony, C’est Bon Chamber Ensemble and SFCM String Ensembles. She won 3rd prize in US Open Violin Competition. She also performs regularly at the Senior Centers around the Bay Area.
Lalit Narayan Kovvuri (Mridangam)
Lalit Narayan Kovvuri is a middle schooler from Chaboya Middle school.
He is currently under the tutelage of Vidwan Sri. S. V. Ramani from Chennai.
Over the past few years, he has participated in various programs in and around the Bay Area for many organizations and many other online programs. He has also won several awards in various mridangam competitions nationally and internationally including Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana. He has also performed in various Chennai sabhas during the December music season.
Apart from mridangam, Lalit is also pursuing Carnatic vocal and violin under the tutelage of Vidushi Smt. Anuradha Sridhar. Lalit performed his mridangam arangetram in the summer of 2019 accompanying Smt. Vasudha Ravi on vocal, Smt. Bharathi Gopalakrishnan in violin and Vid SV Ramani on Ghatam
Soumyasri Rangan
Soumyasri Rangan is a flutist and vocalist who comes from a family of music artists. She began her music and flute training at the early age of seven from her father Sri Mohan Rangan Govindaraj. She also learns vocal music from Smt Sumitra Vasudev who is a disciple of the renowned Sangeetha Kalanidhi Smt R. Vedavalli. Soumya is a 12th grader and will be going to UC Berkeley fall of 2023. Her interests are in international relations and business majors.
Keshavan narayanan srivatsan
Keshavan Narayanan Srivatsan is a Carnatic vocalist and violinist, belonging to the Legendary Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar & Palghat K.V. Narayanaswamy Lineage. He has been training in vocal music under his parents Smt. Subhapriya K. Srivatsan and Hemmige Sri V. Srivatsan since a very young age and continues to train on the violin with his father. Keshavan has also had the rare privilege of learning with illustrious musicians such as Vidushi Smt. Padma Narayanaswamy (his Parama-guru-pathni) and Vidushi Smt. Jayalakshmi Santhanam. Keshavan holds an undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Southern California.
Govinda Rangan
Govinda Rangan has been learning mridangam from incredible Gurus Sri Karthik Gopalratnam and Sri H S Sudhindra. He is fortunate to have a rich percussion journey plus a gurukula-like experience during the summer months. Govinda grew up in the Bay Area California and pursues a bachelor's degree in drone technology at ASU, Arizona. He also plays Western music on the piano and enjoys creating melodies with percussion blends derived from the mridangam. In his spare time, Govinda enjoys CAD modeling, 3D printing, and flying drones.
