Victims of Trafficking

What is human trafficking?

“Human trafficking is the recruitment and/or movement of someone within or across borders through the abuse of power/position with the intention of forced exploitation, commercial or otherwise.” (The Human Trafficking Clinic, 2009)

Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery and impacts populations all around the globe, including US-born individuals. Individuals and families seeking out economic opportunities, or attempting to escape dangerous living conditions, are often targeted by traffickers for exploitation. Traffickers use force, fraud or coersion to control their victims. Victims are exploited for both labor and sex trafficking purposes. These victims have been trafficked for domestic servantude, restaurant, hotel & factory work, as well as and agriculture. Many victims of human trafficking are forced to work in prostitution or the sex entertainment industry. Trafficking occurs in urban, suburban, and rural areas.
