Employment

LFS provides each refugee with a career counselor who searches for possible jobs and helps to provide job orientation and training. These specialists are responsible for many families, so they can always use help!

Check out the Training Programs page for opportunities for refugees to learn new skills!

Know of any good places to search for jobs? Have any connections to potential employers? Post them here!

Beware of jobs at meat packing plants! They may pay fairly well, but they are usually a long ways away and very difficult work. These jobs can be harmful to families because it takes a parent away from home for long periods of time and could cause injury.

Preparing refugees for employment:

  • Teach them about the "American" work ethic
    • Be on time
    • Call if you will be late or not able to come in
    • etc.
  • Help them to develop a resume
  • Help them to practice interviewing
  • Teach them a skill
  • Teach them English
