School Registration

If you want to help with school registration for the family's children, refer to the following information for help. (If you have experience with this, please update the instructions!)

Aurora Public Schools:

It takes about 4 hours and you have to go to the centralized admissions building in Aurora off of Peoria (no matter what specific school in Aurora you would like to register them in). It is a good idea to call the specific school that you want them to be in before you do anything to make sure that you are doing everything corrently. Also, you need to have their I-95, SSNs, proof of address in the form of a signed lease agreement, birth certificate for the child, and their SNAP government assisted food information so that they can get free lunch. Then you have to go back to the school and fill out another 10 pages of papers, and the student is not allowed to start school until the next day after they have been registered.

New America Schools:

If a student will not be able to graduate high school before he or she is 21 years old, he or she may need to attend the New America School high school. They have three locations in Denver, Aurora, and Lakewood. Go to: http://newamericaschool.org/home.asp for information on how to register.

Tip: Ask the school about resources they have for refugees. This could be anything from tutoring to cheap laptops.
