On Tuesday, 22 November 2017, at the Faculty of Information Engineering, Computer Science and Statistics, University of Rome “La Sapienza”, the second stage of the roadshow “Cyber Security. The Evolution of Security in the Ecosystem 4.0” was held. The event was organized by Nòva24 - Il Sole 24 Ore in collaboration with CINI and Unindustria and saw the partnership between IBM and Tim. It is an itinerant event that brings together the main Italian cities and hosts some of the most important entrepreneurs and researchers of the moment.
The meeting has placed cybersecurity at the center of the debate and how it is currently dealing with the business system. Cyber security in a fluid era like ours has a central importance in the defense programs of our country and must necessarily affect everyone from public administrations to the private sector, through the world of research as is the university.
The meeting was attended by the entrepreneur and internationally renowned trader, Giampaolo Lo Conte, whom we had the pleasure of meeting, and has released some statements about the event.
Q. Mr. Giampaolo Lo Conte, we read on the Internet that your entrepreneurial experience is known internationally. How do you judge Italy's growth process in this context of IT security?
A. Italy is one of the countries with the highest unexpressed potential in the world. I firmly believe that my country is full of professionalism in the field of cybersecurity and that we have so much quality on which, however, we almost do not want to rely.
Q. You are also an important trader. In your long curriculum there are many experiences that have brought you to know the high finance closely. Where is Italy about it?
A. It is not a coincidence that among the most important figures in the world economy, many come from Italy, my country. Personally I have worked and managed patrimonial companies all over the world managing considerable portfolios. My training is Italian, I studied in Italy and I am an Italian citizen; so I think that under this point of view, my country is among the most important and credited to talk about "money" (He smiles).
Q. The Internet and Italy. What do you think about it?
A. The Internet has brought a total change of the habits and customs and traditions of each individual, in the last twenty years. The evolution has been very rapid, perhaps even faster than expected, but my country has managed to resist with all its strength. There is still much to do, compared to other countries in the world where digital is everywhere, because it is perfectly interconnected with any daily action and especially at the institutional level. Unfortunately, in Italy, even though the digitalization of companies has already taken place, the bureaucracy system still poses important limits. But we are on the right track…
Q. Cybersecurity, What do you keep about this event?
A. It was a very interesting event, with a strong international soul for the topics; but in particular, I really appreciated the ways in which the themes were explained.
It’s not the first cyber security event for me, because I am very interested in the digitization processes of our daily life. Network security is something fundamental and essential, at every level and in every sector. I believe it is necessary to insist firmly on these issues, to make everyone aware of the risks and possibilities that technology offers us today.
Giampaolo Lo Conte, entrepreneur and trader, is often present in important International Economic Forums. Giampaolo is also Baron of Lo Conte Dynasty and Commander of Justice of the Byzantine Order of the Holy Sepulcher. He has published several contributions in the field of finance and analysis of international markets.
The program of the Cyber Security Evolution event was released on the Sole 24 Ore minisite. Among the speakers are the names of Alessandro Spada (Vice President of Assolombarda Confindustria Milano Monza and Brianza), Pierangela Samarati (University of Milan, Department of Computer Science), Ernesto Damiani (ETISALAT British Telecom Innovation Center of Abu Dhabi), Andrea Costa (Head Infrastructure Solutions TIM), Ivan Basso (ICT Manager Fluid-o-tech), Francesco Teodonno (IBM Italy Security Leader), Stefano Zanero (Milan Polytechnic Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering), Filippo Todaro (Mediaset Group Security Manager), Roberto Baldoni (Research Center of Cyber Intelligence and Information Security University of Rome La Sapienza and Director of National Cybersecurity Laboratory of CINI), Alvise Biffi (Advisory Board Cyber Security Assolombarda and Vice President of Piccola Industria Confindustria).
At the end of the event, the importance of the comparison between universities, companies and institutions was emphasized, to reflect the effects of security on the business world at the time of Industrie 4.0: with equal risks, numerous opportunities were born for Italian companies.
