After what that flatland city hick wrote about the Kaiser Pass road, I thought it prudent to hold your collective hands and assure you that no great natural or man-made dangers lurk there.

Once you will have passed through Madera on Hwy 99S, take the Herndon Avenue East exit*, about 10 miles.

Cross Hwy #49, after 4 miles take #168, Toll House Road east, and continue to just before Shaver Lake. Take the left road at the Dinkey Creek Junction. In about three miles take the right fork, still #168, to the east end of Huntington Lake (29 mi from Shaver). (You will have crossed Tamarack Ridge Pass and Rock Creek Road on the right at mile 10). Turn sharp east (right) onto #80, direction Kaiser Pass, and this is where the fun begins.

About a mile over the pass, go right, there may be a sign to Mono Hot Springs (22 years ago there was). Six miles later is another junction. Go left. Again there may be a sign to Mono. When you get to Edison, cross the dam, the campsite is on the north eastern side. Figure 90 to 120 minutes from Huntington. The road is narrow but paved.

We'll pick up the permits, etc in Prather. No bear barrels, stay home. See you Tuesday.
