- Charon officers are drawn from the noble classes, and are usually third-born males of noble houses. With few prospects of inheritance outside of a well-born wife's dowry, they are drawn into military service for glory and a guaranteed pension upon retirement.
- Charon officers are expected to follow a strict code of conduct and to be an example to their peers and those of lower ranks and station. Foremost among these offenses is visible cowardice in battle, excessive fraternization with the lower ranks, and public drunkenness. Minor infractions can result in reassignment and barring from the Officer's Club, while major infractions can result in Courts Martial of dishonorable discharge. Some additional allowances are granted to those of the highest social rank, of course.
- Charon Mechs are allowed a degree of customization (called 'Dressage') based upon very strict parameters. Allowed customization includes unit colors, motto, banners and heraldry, house colors, motto, banners and heraldry, as well as personal honors and markings for confirmed kills.
