Kuiper
Kuiper features a binary star system, plenty of resources- and not much else. The Kuiper system revolves around the aging core of a red giant star Hanbi and its companion black hole Pazuzu. Around 500,000 years ago, the star blew off most of its mass, destroying the planets in orbit about and dispersing gases and dust throughout the system. Hanbi’s death is accelerating as its matter is being pulled into its companion black hole, which has re-ignited, blazing intense radiation throughout the system. There are no planets or even planetoids- just endless rings are large and small asteroids brimming with untapped mineral resources amidst a dense planetary nebula.
Kuiper is ruled- if this is the proper word- by unruly clans of space miners. The harshness of life in this system has created a mercenary ‘every clan for itself’ outlook amongst the miners, and they will take any job and cut any corner to gain temporary advantage, or just a few months more of foodstuffs.
The center of life in Kuiper is the ancient and massive Valhalla Station - which serves as the main trading hub and a kind of religious center of life for the miners of Kuiper. While aboard the station the Rule of Concordia is in effect, and clan violence is forbidden. Of course, this rule doesn’t preclude taking a visiting rube for all that they are worth.
