answer

1. The probabilities presented had no empirical basis - What is the POPULATION from which the sampling was done>?

2. The events mentioned were NOT INDEPENDENT. So there is no basis for MULTIPLYING the probabilities.

3. There is no clear way to APPLY the probability MODEL to reality. What is being chosen as a simple random sample? Where is the population from which selection is made? How can we justify use of a probability model in this particular situation>?

EXTRA EXERCISE: Show that using the multiplication rule to calculate the probability that girls wear glasses would give a misleading answer, in the examples given earlier.
