S2: Model Approximate Complex Reality by Simplified Image To Allow Calculations

The picture shows a standard way that models are used. We have a complex plot which has an irregular boundary. We would like to measure its area. So we APPROXIMATE the area by right angled triangles and quadrilaterals. These are shapes for which we know the area formulas, while there is no easy formula for the area of the irregular shape. So after making this approximation (A MODEL), we can easily calculate the area for the model.

Models are also used in many other ways. For example, if someone was CONSTRUCTING a building on this plot, the model would provide him with straight lines along which WALLS can be built, and a drawing which can be used by architect to construct rooms etc.
