Corruption of Netgear router and Microsoft Edge on Window 11 starting 11/3/23
Each time I tried to connect to the Internet it looked like it temporarily connected then in a few seconds it would disconnect. It did not matter if I used a Wifi connection or a USB to Ethernet adapter. My Lenovo Windows 11 computer would connect to my Netgear router. All other Operating systems appeared to work just fine--2 iPhones, 2 ohter older Windows 10 computers were OK.
My Netgear router (connected to a modem to COX network) was attacked. Here is a partial router log and notice the country attacking:
[DoS Attack: SYN/ACK Scan] from source: 139.99.61.186, port 22, Monday, November 06, 2023 02:23:43 Singapore
[DoS Attack: ACK Scan] from source: 216.220.52.141, port 8190, Monday, November 06, 2023 01:53:15 Shanghai, China
Also, COX texted me regularly for the next week they were experiencing "impacts" to their network and sorry for the difficulties. In my opinion, this was most likely due to a cyber attack.
To fix the Windows 11 upgraded computer, I took it to Paul at the Computer Factory in San Marcos. This laptop worked just fine on their Wifi network (a hint). He had seen similar problems and suggested some sensitivity using the Microsoft Edge browser. It turns out the Edge browser was updated the same date as there was a cyber attack on my router. However, there is nothing you can do to uninstall Microsoft Edge. This app is intimate with the functionality of Windows 11—NOT GOOD!
There appeared to be some interaction between Microsoft Edge and my Netgear router. I was not able to download any updates from the Internet on this equipment. I had to completely turn off my Netgear router (no Wifi from this router) then use an alternative connection through another ISP (AT&T) to finally “repair” Microsoft Edge.
Once Microsoft Edge was repaired, I was able to go back to my original Netgear router and access the Internet via Wifi and hardwired LAN ports.
Now (11/12/23 as of 2 AM PDT) I noticed Microsoft Edge has been updated on 11/10/23 to version 119.0.2151.58.
Summary: This attack came through my ISP--COX, through my modem firewall, through my router firewall and through Microsoft Windows 11 firewall to corrupt my system--in particular Microsoft Edge.
This appears to be resolved...I am back up and trading.
