The Steps In Building A Website
When building a website there are some set steps that I have to take or either the builder or someone else. I can help by writing out my website before building it. These steps are very important to speed up the building process. Of course I can still make changes while building, but thinking while building slows down and costs more money than drawing and writing first. Using these steps in this order will help me get most out of the process of building my website:
Create a name for the website
Register website name
Think about what I want to communicate with the website
Think about which pages are needed
Think about what else should be on the website (think of social media, online sales, registering a blog/newsletter, sharing photos, etc.)
Think about which colors to use on the website
Think about building the website myself or outsource it
Think about which CMS system to use
When outsourcing, ask a few quotes with different website builders
Think about what my website should look like (discuss this with the potential web builder)
Think about which pages should be in the menu (discuss this with the potential website builder)
Purchase a hosting party subscription (This step can be done by the web builder)
Install WordPress or other CMSsytem (This step can be done by the website builder)
Create 1st version of text pages in Word or on paper
Start building
Choose the plugins needed (WordPress)
Create pages in WordPress or other CMSsystem
Upload photos
Create a menu
Choose a theme (Limit it to about three to test. When building with a website builder ask for choices within the budget and wishes)
Set up the blog
Get started with widgets on the sides, bottom of the website (WordPress, this can be done by the web builder)
Let the website rest for a while
Check the texts again
Send the first version to minimal of 3 people and ask for their opinion (don't take all advice)
Change some things or let the webbuilder do that
Set up Google Analytics
Check the appearance of the website
Set up SEO
Share the website and see if the feedback can be used to make the website better
About 6 months later go back to the webbuilder and ask for some changes
Promote the website
Update the website regularly (Especially plugins, the text doesn't need to be to changed all the time)
Keep blogging if the website is used to attract customers
