a bittersweet ending

Well, the program has finally come to an end, and it's cheesy to say this, but it really is a bittersweet ending. I've grown to love the Stanford campus and Carnegie Campus as well; the hustle of daily life, the sassy squirrels, and even the distant rumble of construction crews. Research on my topic, the rate of chlorination of organic molecules in Alaskan soils, has all but wrapped up and a little clean up should make it ready to present at the AGU conference in December. I will be bidding farewell to all the other interns and my wonderful supervisor, Ted Raab.

The summer program has been so much more than just a research program. The various field trips have given me a chance to see science in action and to see some other cool things outside the lab. They've also complemented the seminars, during which I got to learn about what scientists in their respective professions are researching today and how their research will impact the world.

The sheer variety of things I got to do this summer made everything that much more interesting, and always kept me on my toes. To any future interns, cherish your time here, spend it wisely, and take advantage of every opportunity this program gives you! Good luck on entering the program and have fun!
