at the beginning

Hi everyone! This past Tuesday Dr. Sally Benson came to talk to us about Energy Resources Engineering and the ways we can apply the principles in the field when conducting research. With all of the experiments we got to do, I feel like I got a taste of the field and look forward to other talks! This summer, I am working in Professor Payne's lab and on a project with one of the grad students, Caitlin. We are trying to discover what oceanic parameters and qualities control foram body size. Body size is important because it influences a large spectrum of evolutionary processes, and researching how foram body size differs in the different oceans of the world has been very exciting so far. The specific region I am working on is from Pacific Oregon to Alaska, and I have almost finished collecting the data and will be analyzing my work soon. So far, doing research in the lab has been a very valuable experience, and I can't wait for the rest of the summer!
