Marigot Bay, St. Lucia

Friday, January 25th

Arrived in time to get settled in the VIP suite. The suite is the width of the boat in the front of the boat with the king-size bed and desk on the right side and a seating area with a work station on the left. Forward of that are two bathrooms.

Leaving Margot Bay, Roseau, St. Lucia

Saturday morning, we motered to Rodney Bay, St. Lucia. After breakfast, we boarded a tender and went ashore for a hike. It turned out to be much more vigorous than I expected. We climbed steep inclines to see the ruins of old military installations. We all felt it in our legs.

Sunday, the 27th, we were in Roseau, Dominica. That morning we took a 45 minutes hike each way and was to see the incredibly high Middleham Falls. Roland’s legs felt as they were going to give out 25 minutes into the steep hike and volunteered to stop so as not to hold up the rest of the group. However, after a few minutes, the local guide returned and said the path flattens after a short distance. So Roland, the local guide, and a crew member continued up the path. As we were in a rainforest, the path was frequently muddy and at one point the mud actually pulled Roland's shoe off. Most of the walk was stepping from one two foot log to the next. Roland had the guide's hand keeping him from losing his balance and guiding him where to step. At one point the guide slipped and Roland assured the guide not to worry Roland had him. The laughter could be heard throughout the forest.

At the end of the hike, we had a picnic of delicious avocado and chicken sandwiches and headed to a waterfall in a deep crevice reachable only by swimming. Then we headed back to the boat. Roland later realized that his doctor had put him on a beta blocker which was keeping his heart from beating fast enough to the vigorous hikes. His medication has been changed to eliminate that problem.

Monday, the 28th, after breakfast the boat was moved to a peaceful cove for snorkeling in the Champagne Reef which is named for the bubbling waters rising from the thermal springs on the ocean floor. The snorkeling was spectacular.

That afternoon we motored to the bay of Anse du Bourg in Les Saintes, a small archipelago made up of 9 islands discovered by Christopher Columbus on November 4, 1493. The bay of Anse du Bourg is known worldwide for its beauty and is considered the third most beautiful bay in the world. It has maintained its charming French influenced architecture and picturesque narrow streets. For diving fans Les Saintes is a true paradise, the dive sites are among the most beautiful island of Guadeloupe.

Tuesday, we motored to the Grande Anse Beach, Guadeloupe, for a beach day. Due to the rain, we changed our plans and went snorkeling. The water was clear, and we enjoyed the sights of many varied and colorful fish.

On Wednesday, the 30th, we spent the day and night at Carlisle Bay, Antigua. We enjoyed a relaxing day and watching the yacht race from Antigua before heading to our final cruise destination, Falmouth Harbour, Antigua, on Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday we headed to Falmouth Harbour. The harbor was full of boats of different sizes and designs, but the number of mega yachts was very impressive. We walked around town; then had cocktails overlooking the harbor. The beautiful weather made all the more enjoyable. On Friday, we said our final goodbyes and headed to the airport and back to Fort Lauderdale.
