Pieve Ligure

On the 15th we drove to Pieve Ligure on the Italian Riviera. Our large apartment was on the top floor of the former Pirelli estate. We enjoyed the wonderful gardens, terrace, and balcony with spectacular views of the Gulf of Genova and bordering towns. We were joined for most of the week by Fortunada, Cheryl’s friend and former landlady during her visits to the adjacent town of Bogliasco.

On Tuesday, we traveled with Fortunada to Rapallo, a beautiful seaside town whose harbor was ravaged by last year’s storms. A large portion of the seawall was destroyed and many of the boats and yachts were washed up into the town's streets. The repairs are still in progress.

On the way back to our apartment, we stopped at San Rocco to enjoy the scenic walk along the bluff over the Gulf of Genoa. The sunset was spectacular.

On Wednesday, we took the train to Vernazza on the famous scenic Cinque Terre. We had lunch at a delightful cafe overlooking the town and surrounding countryside. We spent the remainder of the week sightseeing nearby spots with Fortunada and left for the Milan airport on Saturday.
