As we begin a relaxing summer, I would like to take a moment to congratulate one of our affiliate organizations on achieving a milestone in its success. The Golden Key Music Festival, which many of you have sent your students to participate in over the years, is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year! Congratulations to Dr. George Borisov, its founder, and everyone who has put so much work into creating this long-standing musical tradition!
The Golden Key was founded in 2002 as a way to give students opportunities to perform in a historic and professional setting. It was the first festival of its kind, and since its beginnings, the Golden Key Music Festival has brought us a series of many beautiful recitals in such locations as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Frederick Rose Hall at Lincoln Center, Bechstein Hall, and W.M.P. Concert Hall in N.Y.C., just to name a few. In recent years, the Golden Key has even opened the door to big concert stages overseas, traveling with students to Vienna, Paris, and Barcelona.
The Cecilian Club has been an active presence in the organization since its creation: our very own Beth Chen, Lillian Livingston, and Yining Wang have served as distinguished judges, and a number of member-teachers have performed in the public programs hosted by the festivals, gracing venues like Ehbar Hall, Bösendorfer Hall, the Mozarthaus, and the Haus der Musik in Vienna. Let’s take a moment to celebrate this accomplishment of one of the Cecilian Music Club’s own goals: to enable students to learn about music, and bring beautiful performances to the community!
Congratulations again to the Golden Key Music Festival, as it prepares for a week-long program in Vienna! (see http://www.goldenkeyfestival.com/vienna_index.html for more information!)
Happy 10th Anniversary!
