About the Cheverly Green Infrastructure Committee

WHAT IS THE CHEVERLY GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE COMMITTEE?  WHAT DOES IT DO?

Following Cheverly's adoption of the Cheverly Green Infrastructure Plan in 2011, the Mayor and Town Council endorsed the Green Infrastructure Committee to work on implementation of the plan. The committee continues to be committed to supporting the community and our environment.

The all-volunteer committee works with the community to teach and learn more about our environment. Just last month winter walks highlighted birds and plants in our natural areas. The committee initiates projects to protect and improve our environment. And the committee acts as an advisory body to the Mayor and Council.

How does it do that? Sometimes the Council brings issues to the Green Infrastructure Committee, and sometimes the committee alerts the Council. The committee’s task is to research the issues -- it acts as a fact-finding body. As with any research the worth lies not so much in the answers arrived at, but in the questions asked. The committee then makes recommendations to the Mayor and Council. These recommendations might agree with the Council’s position or might offer different perspectives. The committee’s most important value to the community and the Council lies in its independence. At their best the Mayor and Council work with the Green Infrastructure Committee by supporting that independence.

You are invited to join this dynamic committee looking out for our Cheverly community and its environment. The committee is always open to new members. Whether your interest is in education or research, in long or short-term projects, you can find a place on the Cheverly Green Infrastructure Committee. Why not attend some of our meetings? We meet the first Monday of every month via Zoom. Meeting announcements and Zoom links are posted on the Town of Cheverly website. And check out www.greencheverly.org, where you can learn more about Green Infrastructure Committee projects and find all manner of information about our Cheverly environment.
