PhD Programmes

The department sees itself as a knowledge generation community of researchers, teachers and students. The clear aim of the department is to produce new knowledge in the field of Computational Biology, Bioinformatics and allied areas through an informational perspective of life process. Since 2006, the department has been a research centre of the University of Kerala. The department offers PhD Programme in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. Being an interdisciplinary branch, the department admits researchers from different backgrounds. The University accepts doctoral applications in January and July every year and the admission is based on a PhD entrance examination in Bioinformatics, held by the University every year in September/ October. (Exemption is given to MPhil holders/ KSCSTE/ UGC-NET/ DBT-BIF Fellowship holders and certain other categories.) As per the order Ac.C/4402/2011 dated 29/6/2011, a PhD degree in Bioinformatics is considered equivalent to a PhD degree in the faculty and subject in which a candidate holds his/her masters degree.
