Gopakumar G. (Gopu) hails from Kallada (a very scenic village, including Manroe Island, on the bank of historic Kallada river), in Kollam district and holds a B.Tech in Computer Science and an M.Tech in Software Engineering (first rank), both from CUSAT. He also holds an M.Phil in Bioinformatics from this centre. He was a full-time researcher in Computational Biology in CBi until recently, when he joined as a faculty in National Institute of Technology, Kozhikkode (NITC). He has also worked with College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram (CET), University College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram (UCK) and College of Engineering Trikkaripur and Perumon. Gopu was the major person behind famous GEN-SNiP Tool. He also worked as a project fellow for the Govt. of India funded CGRex project. His research is on studying the fractality and lacunarity of bio-sequences (Fractality is a mathematical concept where objects have fractional dimensions like 1.45 and 2.34, not just 2-dimension or 3-dimension).
